the 808 kick drum I would like to shape is approx 1 second long, it has a nice tick sound at its very start which I would like to keep un compressed, then after 10 ms I would like to apply a compression ratio of 2:1 with a threshold of minus 20 db or so, ending with a release time or 90 ms. So, here is what I would like to do, I would like to use Maximus to shape the transient of a kick drum, very simply. Like I said this is what it appears to me to be doing. This is what first struck me and I may be wrong but! Attack time is simply the amount of time it takes the compression to reach its full ratio, ie with an attack time of 1 second you should hear the first second of the sound without any compression at all until the attack time has passed and the compression is finally applied, instead of this what Maximus,s attack time appears to do is add latency to the the audio pre your compressor effectively moving the attack portion of its envelope further in front of the the audio signal (this is the opposite of how a compressor usually works). I have a problem with the way Maximus works, it doesn't appear to use the same rules that all other compressors use regarding attack time.
